Today, we finished up our last day of classes with a review game and other games in the park. Afterwards, our Spanish teachers joined us for a group lunch to celebrate a successful program together. This afternoon, we visited the Joan Miró Foundation museum. Tomorrow, we're packing up then taking advantage of our last day in Barcelona!
Today, we ventured to the hometown of one of our Spanish teachers, Alícia, to see the local festival. The weeklong celebration kicks off with a show of "castellers", groups of Catalans who compete to build the most impressive human castles. It was quite an experience! We took advantage of the good weather and visited Montserrat today. The views were beautiful. We had the opportunity to see the Virgin of Montserrat, one of Europe's "Black Madonnas," and the Monastery there. In our Spanish classes, students have been learning about a variety of topics, then taking their knowledge out into the real work for practice! Here are some photos of students' out of the classroom learning experiences. After classes this morning, we took a bus to visit the theme park atop Mount Tibidabo, which happens to be one of the oldest theme parks still running today. We visited the Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor, as well.
We visited Camp Nou, the stadium for the Futbol Club de Barcelona, and took the grand tour of the stadium. We got to see Barça's five UEFA Champions League Cups, as well and many other historical items.
After a long day of classes, we took a trek up to the old bunkers on the hill to get a view of the city and surrounding areas at sunset. It was a memorable experience! We were all sad to drop our first-two-week participants off at the airport to leave. We hope your experience was as memorable for you as it has been for us!We day-tripped to Figueres, the birthplace of Salvador Dalí, and went to the beach at Roses. In Figueres, we toured the Dalí Museum and experienced surrealist art by one of its most famous artists. Our Spanish classes have completed a variety of activities related to their lessons.
